Uninsulated Valve & Flange Loss
The annual heat and fuel lost through uninsulated fittings, compared with fitting a jacket.
Inputs
Annual cost of the loss
16,358€
Annual saving if jacketed
15,360€
Details
| Total heat loss | 66 kW |
| Loss per fitting | 3.3 kW |
| Loss remaining after jacketing | 4.023 kW |
| Total equivalent bare pipe | 60,000 mm |
| Equivalent steam flow | 118 kg/h |
Assumptions
- Fittings are represented by an equivalent length of BARE PIPE of the same size. This is established field practice; real surface geometry varies from fitting to fitting.
- Still air and an emissivity of 0.9 on the bare surface are assumed. The jacketed case uses 0.3 (aluminium cladding).
