Batch Tank Heating — Condensate Load

The steam needed to bring a tank batch up to temperature — heat-up and hold loads given separately.

Unit system

Inputs

Heat-up load

640.7kg/h

Holding load

6.075kg/h

Details

Trap capacity (with safety factor)961.1 kg/h
Heat-up duty379.7 kW
Total energy per batch379.7 kWh
Surface loss at target3.6 kW
Steam temperature143.6 °C
Selection noteThe heat-up load is several times the hold load — size the coil and trap on HEAT-UP, or the target is never reached.

Assumptions

  • The surface loss is taken to rise linearly during heat-up, so its mean is half the loss at target.
  • Agitator power and the tank metal itself are neglected; for heavy-walled tanks add the metal mass to the batch.
