Flash Steam Generation
The flash steam formed when condensate drops to a lower pressure, its fraction and the volume increase.
Inputs
Flash steam
152.3kg/h
Flash fraction
0.1523
Details
| Condensate remaining | 847.7 kg/h |
| Power carried by the flash steam | 95.47 kW |
| Volume flow of the flash steam | 254.9 m³/h |
| Volume flow of the condensate | 0.8845 m³/h |
| Volume multiplier | 289.1 |
| Effect on the line | The volume grows by tens of times — size the line for the flash steam, not the condensate |
Assumptions
- The condensate is taken as SATURATED water at the upstream pressure. Sub-cooled condensate flashes less, or not at all.
- The process is adiabatic; line heat loss reduces the flash fraction somewhat.
